- Sondra, tofu burger with sesame soy mayo
- Crinkle cut chips
We met up with JT and his friends on a Sunday afternoon. There was a massive queue to order, and a pretty long wait for the food. We saw a group wait for their order, recieve it and finish their meal - all before our order was ready.
If you come to Huxtaburger starving, be prepared for some slow torture with the mouthwatering smells of burger patties and chips wafting around you as you wait.
I had ordered the Sondra, which was a vegetarian option with the tofu steak instead of beef pattie. The brioche bun is probably the best I’ve ever had, winning points in both the taste and texture department. The bun was slightly sugary with a taste of butter, a light crisp and fluffy in texture. My burger was loaded with sesame soy mayo dressing. Not that I’m complaining, I used the excess sauce on our crispy crinkle cut chips. Waste not!
Tried a bit of JT’s Huxtaburger, which was made up with a wonderful combination of condiments; tomato, mustard and mayo. I was a little disappointed by the patty which was kinda dry and chewy and not what I expected at all.
When it comes to meal time, I do think I eat less than the average person, so while I thought the burger was perfect in size, JT had found the burger to be a bit too small for his liking. That might or may not have been affected by the fact that we had been waiting for our order for quite some time. Regardless, a side of crinkle cut chips is definitely recommended. Crinkle cut hot chips are seldom sold these days, how can you possibly resist?
For those that are dining in, be prepared to get your hands dirty! I had conveniently packed some had wipes with me, so it wasn’t an issue for us.
We immensely enjoyed our tasty burgers, which were over in a flash. It was definitely worth the visit, but I’m not sure if the waiting time warrants a revisit. Plenty of other burgers in Melbourne awaiting exploration!
